Ogoglio

Came across this project on 3pedia (another interesting resource). The premise of Ogoglio is this, “Many people now start their careers with a deep understanding of cooperative 3D communities like World of Warcraft, but when they enter the workplace they are handed email and a shared calendar and are expected to teach themselves how to [...]

Philip Rosedale at The Long Now Foundation

On 30 November 2006 Philip Rosedale spoke to The Long Now Foundation about Second Life. As a talk given by the CEO of the growing virtual world it is an interesting to hear his overview of what has and is happening, but more than that it is fascinating to watch him. During this talk Philip [...]

The Art Institute Online has announced that they will be offering a Business Communication class in Second Life for the Fall 2007 semester. Their in-world island, AI Pittsburgh, will be open to the public soon. More here, and on YouTube (below).

TwitterBox HUD

There is a Twitter HUD available for Second Life. Ordinal Malaprop developed it and is making it available for free in-world. You can read more about the HUD at the web site. If you have never Twittered before or have no idea what I”m talking about you can see what it is all about at [...]

The Future Doesn’t Stop at a 3D Web

CoolCat blogger Vicki Davis posted a few of her thoughts on SL and education and the implications for learning with the advent of a 3D web that is getting attention here and here. While she builds a heroic argument for why 3D worlds are important for the future of education, I believe this idea needs [...]

Video Tutorials

Claudia Linden has pointed out that there are a number of video tutorials available on the SL wiki. I had forgotten about the wiki and am glad to see it is getting some attention. If you have one of your own, why not add it?

My Second Life: The Album

I received a tip the other day via my last.fm account about an album titled My Second Life, by Niko Donburi. Reminiscent of the stylings of Weird Al Yankovic, Donburi parodies the highs and lows of life on the SL grid. Residents and Unverifieds alike can appreciate songs like Second Life (That’s Where I Want [...]

Today OpenID, Tomorrow …?

I have an OpenID and use it wherever possible – though it isn’t always that much. In fact, I’m surprised that the boom of Web2.0 applications has not seen wider adoption of identity management mechanisms. Today CommonCraft posted some concise thoughts on OpenID and what wide adoption would mean for online communities. Two projections for [...]

LL Announces Measures to Counter Overload

Linden lab has announced its plans to restrict the grid to premium customers only during peak traffic time. This plan gets a thumbs up from comment-contributing residents on the LL blog, and seems to be the general consensus of residents all around. There is no mistaking that Second Life is an ever-developing, ever-growing endeavor for [...]

New Rig

New! With more productivity packed in every byte. The new laptop is making the once painful tasks of building/texturing much easier. I’ll post more about the specs later, but right now am just amazed at all the things I wasn’t able to see before – like my face. Who knew!
